Intro

A graduate of Baruch College in NYC, with a BA, and Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus, with an MA, I’ve written two children’s books in both English and Spanish under pseudonym Lucy Aponte, as well as a book of short stories under pseudonym JP Luce, both found on Amazon via the links found on the top right of this page. Additionally, my first short film has been honored with three Semi Finalist laurels, seen above.

Early Life

I was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, located on the southern coast of the island. My parents brought me to Brooklyn when I was only six months old; I’ve been here ever since. Early on, I spent summers on my beloved grandfather’s farm in Puerto Rico, running barefoot after farm animals and climbing fruit trees. I’ve always loved writing and would write short stories in an old-fashioned, black & white notebook. When a fire destroyed our home, taking my stories with it, I stopped writing for a while, mourning the loss of those early musings. Eventually, I found my way back to myself.

Career

A Compliance Professional at several institutions in NY and NJ, as well as a Brooklyn Navy Yard Coordinator before returning to creative writing, I was inspired to write again after the death of my maternal grandfather. I couldn’t shake the nostalgia for what it would be like to share experiences with him once again. The idea implanted itself so deeply in my psyche that I was forced to either free it or perish under its weight. It was then that I began to write a story which resembled my own - a story about a chemist whose grief propels her to steal her uncle’s recipe for a drug that, while sleeping, transports its users to a dream world where they can relive vivid memories of their dead loved ones, a drug she then mass produces and traffics so others, too, can experience some solace.

Finding it difficult to write as much as I wanted to while working full-time, I finally followed the suggestion of a magnet pasted on my fridge (photo above) that advised: leap, and the net will appear. These words provided me with the impetus to walk away from my ‘nth office job to finish my passion project, The Absence, currently being queried.
